The NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension gives fishermen in Andhra Pradesh a monthly pension of ₹4,000 under the State’s NTR Bharosa social security pension scheme. Fishing is seasonal, weather-dependent work: earnings are good in some months and poor in others, and older fishermen can no longer go to sea at all. This guide explains who can apply for the fishermen pension, which documents are needed, how to apply at your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam, and how to check your application and payment status online.
The NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension is one of several occupation-based pensions under NTR Bharosa, the umbrella pension scheme launched through G.O.Ms.No.43 on 13 June 2024. Like the other pensions in the scheme, the fishermen pension is paid monthly to the pensioner’s bank account, and applications are taken at village and ward secretariats with Aadhaar-based e-KYC. The pension amount of ₹4,000 a month is the same as for most other NTR Bharosa pension categories, including the old age pension, the weavers pension and the toddy tappers pension.

What Is the NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension?
The NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension is a State social security pension for people whose livelihood is fishing. Andhra Pradesh has a long coastline and many fishing villages, where families depend on the sea for income. Fishing is physically demanding and risky, and income stops during bad weather and the annual fishing ban period, when mechanised fishing is paused to protect fish breeding.
The pension is meant to give fishing families a dependable monthly payment. The scheme sits within NTR Bharosa, the State’s main social security pension programme, which covers old age, widow, disability, single women and several occupation-based categories in one common framework. Fishermen families also get separate support during the fishing ban through Matsyakarula Sevalo, the ₹20,000 fishing-ban relief scheme.
Under the common NTR Bharosa rules, pensions are sanctioned after verification at the Sachivalayam and are paid every month. Pensioners can check their sanction and payment status on the social security pensions portal (sspensions.ap.gov.in). If a payment stops, the reason is usually a failed Aadhaar-bank seeding, an e-KYC problem or a change in the bank account — our guide to AP pension payment problems explains the seven most common reasons and what to do for each one.
NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension Amount and Payment
The NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension pays ₹4,000 a month. The amount is credited to the pensioner’s bank account, and the bank account should be seeded with Aadhaar so that the payment reaches the right account without delay. Pensioners who change their bank account should update the new account details at the Sachivalayam and re-check the Aadhaar seeding, because a mismatch between the bank account and the Aadhaar mapping is one of the most common reasons for a missed payment.
Pensioners should also keep their Aadhaar details current. If the name or date of birth in the pension records does not match the Aadhaar card, verification can fail and payments can be held until the record is corrected.
Who Can Apply for the NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension?
Eligibility for the NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension combines two things: the applicant must be a fisherman, and the household must meet the common NTR Bharosa household conditions. The occupation condition is proved with a certificate from the Fisheries Department, or the authority notified for this purpose. The household conditions are the same for all NTR Bharosa pensions and are checked from the family’s white rice card and other records.
Occupation condition for fishermen
The applicant should be engaged in fishing. A certificate issued by the Fisheries Department, or by the authority the department notifies for this purpose, is the main proof of occupation. The certificate should show that the applicant is a fisherman. People who only trade in fish, or who work in fish processing without fishing, should not assume they qualify — the Sachivalayam and the department will check the nature of the work against the certificate.
Household conditions under NTR Bharosa
The common household conditions for NTR Bharosa pensions are: the family should hold a white rice card (BPL), with monthly income up to ₹10,000 in rural areas and up to ₹12,000 in urban areas; land holdings below 3 acres of wet land or 10 acres of dry land; electricity consumption below 300 units a month; and no government employee and no income-tax payer in the family. These conditions are applied across pension categories, and the Sachivalayam checks them when the application is received.
On the question of age, the detailed age conditions for each pension category are notified by the department and published on the pensions portal. We have not stated an age figure here because the applicable age limit should be confirmed from the current notification. Before applying, check the age condition for the fishermen category on sspensions.ap.gov.in or ask at the Sachivalayam.
Documents Required for the NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension
Keep the following documents ready before visiting the Sachivalayam. Originals are needed for verification, and the Sachivalayam will scan or record the copies.
- Aadhaar card of the applicant, for e-KYC and identity verification.
- White rice card (ration card) of the household, which shows the family’s BPL status.
- Fisherman certificate from the Fisheries Department, or the notified authority, proving engagement in fishing.
- Bank passbook of the applicant, for the account into which the pension will be paid; the account should be Aadhaar-seeded.
- Residence proof, if the address on the Aadhaar card is not current.
- Income certificate, if the Sachivalayam asks for proof of household income.
- Passport-size photograph of the applicant.
An income certificate, where needed, is issued through the Grama or Ward Sachivalayam and MeeSeva with Aadhaar and supporting documents, and the same certificate is needed for many other pensions, scholarships and housing applications.
How to Apply for the NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension
Applications for the NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension are taken at the Grama Sachivalayam in villages and the Ward Sachivalayam in towns. There is no separate online application form for the pension; the Sachivalayam is the point of application, and the staff there complete the entry and the Aadhaar e-KYC.
- Visit your Grama or Ward Sachivalayam with the documents listed above, in original and photocopy.
- Ask for the NTR Bharosa pension application and state that it is for the fishermen category.
- Complete Aadhaar e-KYC at the Sachivalayam, usually with a fingerprint or OTP, and confirm that the name and bank details are correctly entered.
- Submit the fisherman certificate and the other documents. The Sachivalayam will verify the household conditions against the rice card and other records.
- Collect the acknowledgement or application number and keep it safe — you will need it to follow up on the application.
- Check the application status on sspensions.ap.gov.in. Once sanctioned, the pension is credited monthly to the linked bank account.

How to Check Application and Payment Status
After applying, track the application on the social security pensions portal at sspensions.ap.gov.in. You will usually need the Aadhaar number or the application number to see the status. The portal shows whether the application is under verification, sanctioned or rejected, and pensioners can also see payment details for recent months. If the portal shows no payment for a month although the pension was sanctioned, first check whether the bank account is still active and Aadhaar-seeded. If the bank account was closed or changed, update it at the Sachivalayam and at the bank.
For problems that do not clear on the portal, you can raise a grievance through the GSWS NBM portal with your Aadhaar details, or call the general helpline 1902. Keep the acknowledgement number and a note of the dates of your visits, so that the grievance can be traced to the original application.
Fishermen Pension Compared with Other NTR Bharosa Pensions
The NTR Bharosa Fishermen Pension is one of several ₹4,000-a-month pensions under the scheme. The NTR Bharosa Old Age Pension pays the same ₹4,000 to elderly people who meet the household conditions, and the NTR Bharosa Weavers Pension and the NTR Bharosa Toddy Tappers Pension also pay ₹4,000 a month. Some categories pay more: the NTR Bharosa Disability Pension pays ₹6,000 or ₹10,000 depending on the category and the SADAREM assessment, and the dialysis pension pays ₹10,000 a month.
If a person qualifies under more than one category, the pension is sanctioned under one category only; the Sachivalayam can advise which category applies to the individual case. Children of fishermen can also apply for post-matric scholarships through Jnanabhumi.
Common Reasons for Delay or Rejection
Pension applications are most often delayed for a few clear reasons, and most of them can be fixed. A missing or expired fisherman certificate is the commonest category-specific reason; get the certificate renewed or reissued by the department before reapplying. Mismatches between the name on the Aadhaar card and the name in the pension record cause verification failures, as do bank accounts that are not Aadhaar-seeded.
Household conditions can also lead to rejection — for example, if a member of the family has become a government employee or an income-tax payer, or if electricity consumption has crossed the limit, the household may no longer qualify. If an application is rejected, ask the Sachivalayam for the exact reason recorded, fix that specific problem, and apply again with the corrected documents.
